Desktop app
A native editor for macOS, Windows, and Linux — the full Goatfied surface, offline-friendly, with a real terminal and source control.
Install
Download the build for your platform from the download page. The app checks for updates in the background and applies them on the next launch. To check on demand, use Check for Updates… in the app menu or in the tray menu.
- macOS — notarized
.dmg, separate Apple Silicon and Intel builds. - Windows —
.exeinstaller (x64). - Linux —
.AppImage(x64).
What's in the app
- The editor, Goat-Tab, Composer, and Chat.
- A real terminal running your shell, and a source control panel.
- Checkpoints you can take before a large change and restore afterwards.
Open a project
Use ⌘O / Ctrl+O to open a folder, or drag a folder onto the dock icon. Recently-opened repos appear on the start screen. Git repositories are detected automatically, including worktrees.
Menus
The native File menu mirrors the things you start most often:
- New Agent (⌘N) — open the Agents Window and start a fresh run.
- Open Folder… (⌘O) — open a project as the active workspace.
- New Terminal — open an integrated terminal tab.
- New Browser — open the built-in browser pane.
- Open Editor Window (⇧⌘N) — jump back to the full editor from the Agents Window.
- Settings… (⌘,) — open settings.
The View menu adds window zoom (⌘= / ⌘- / ⌘0), and the usual Edit, Window, and Help menus are all there.
Menu-bar icon
Goatfied lives in the menu bar (the system tray) under a small G. Click it for a quick menu that doesn’t need the main window focused:
- Recent Agents — jump straight back into a recent agent session.
- New Agent, Open Goatfied, and Settings….
- Check for Updates… and Quit.
Updates & release tracks
The app updates in place: a new version downloads in the background and swaps in on your next relaunch — no manual reinstall, and nothing is re-downloaded from scratch each time. Choose how early you get new builds from Goatfied → Release Track:
- Default (Stable) — vetted releases. The right choice for most people.
- Early Access — newer builds, sooner, with the rough edges that come with them.
About this build
Goatfied → About Goatfied shows the exact version and build so you can include it in a bug report. The same details are in the in-app About dialog.
Web vs desktop
Prefer zero install? Goat Build runs the same Composer and Chat in your browser. The desktop app adds a native terminal, local filesystem access, and offline editing.
